Fellowship

Our CTS WomenELCA meet monthly for Scripture study and time together.  Our social calendar is filled with church potlucks and nights out to cultural events.  We like one another...but there's always room for one more!

Church Night Out at the Hollywood Bowl

PDF Print E-mail

Summer in southern California is never quite complete without at least one trip to the Hollywood Bowl. On Sunday, August 1st, the phenomenal new conductor of the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, Gustavo Dudamel, will be there performing Bizet's opera Carmen. We propose gathering at church at 5:00 PM with a picnic dinner in hand, carpooling down to Pasadena to pick up the Hollywood Bowl bus at 5:45, eating our dinner at or near the Bowl and settling in for the performance, which starts at 7:30 pm.

Tickets for the "very-high-altitude" section for this concert are $15 each (not counting any fees or taxes). Tickets for "not-quite-so-high-altitude" section are $20 each. There are cur-rently a lot of tickets available for each section, but this may not last. The Hollywood Bowl bus costs $5 round trip if tickets are purchased in advance, $8 if purchased at the bus stop.

If you are interested in joining us for this CTS community event, please let Bill Korn know by Sunday, July 4th. Also let him know if you'd prefer the $15 or $20 tickets. He can be reached by phone at 626-798-2754 or email at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . Bring your friends and neighbors for a night of great music and fellowship!

WELCA News for July

PDF Print E-mail

Twenty-seven Lutheran World Relief health kits have been completed and will be sent to the World Relief warehouse for shipment to countries experiencing disasters.

The organization Global Health Ministries receives medical equipment, health supplies, and furniture that are distributed to partners in over 22 countries. The organization is thankful for our church‘s support of this important ministry. We regularly receive newsletters and letters of appreciation to CTS.

Our next meeting will be held September 18, 2010 at Pastor Tarbell‘s home. The CTS women are invited for Bible Study and lunch. Don‘t miss it!!

During the month of July we have the opportunity to present Rada Cutlery which includes various knives, Kitchen utensils and specialty items. There will be catalogs available for members and friends to order selections. We will receive 40% of the profit. We appreciate your participation.

Our funds are used for various projects and ministries such as stipends for our three college students, a $200.00 gift memorial to Witness for Peace on behalf of Luise Engelhardt, and continuing monthly support of  Help a Family.  At our June meeting we agreed to send $100.00 to each of the follow-ing: WELCA Southwest Synod, ECPAC, and Betty Yates Books for African Schools. We will also send $200.00 to the National WELCA Ministry.

WELCA Southwest Synod will hold the 2010 convention in Ventura October 8-10 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel. Reservations are due July 1. Several CTS members are planning to attend. We have not participated for several years, but it has always been a rewarding event. We would like to support a younger woman so that she might attend. Let one of our members know of your interest.

On October 3, Pastor Ruth has invited Marilyn Chelsvig, Associate in Ministry at Christ Lutheran Church in Long Beach, to be a guest speaker for Women in Ministry Sunday.

With God‘s help we will continue to be of service to our church and others.
