About Us

What is a Lutheran?

PDF Print E-mail

The Lutheran church is the oldest and largest of the Protestant churches.  It was the first to "protest" against the religious authorities in the 16th Century.  The leader of that movement was a young Roman Catholic priest named Martin Luther.  He believed, and our church teaches, that salvation is not a reward earned by good or righteous people, but a gift that God offers to everyone.

"Saving is all God's idea and all God's work.  All we do is trust Him enough to let Him do it.  It's God's gift from start to finish!  We don't play a major role.  If we did, we'd probably go around bragging that we'd done the whole thing!  No, we neither make nor save ourselves.  God does the making and the saving."  Ephesians 2 - The Message Translation

Our Mission

PDF Print E-mail
We, the people of God at Christ the Shepherd Evangelical Lutheran Church are called to witness to Jesus Christ, crucified and resurrected, in our worship, our daily lives, and through our Christian service in the community.  In faithfulness to this calling, we are committed to defend human dignity, to stand with poor and powerless people, to advocate justice, to work for peace, and to care for the earth.  Inspired by the Holy Spirit and compelled by God's love for all people, we commit ourselves to invite and welcome ALL into our church regardless of race, nationality, culture, social status, or sexual orientation.

Diversity

Blessed by our difference, Christ the Shepherd (CTS) has been multi-cultural since the 1970s.  We are not black, white, rich, poor, educated or not, straight or gay - we're all those things...and more.

Hospitality

We believe that God would have us welcome all people - as God has welcomed us.

Healing and Reconciliation

We seek to promote wholeness and well-being, learning to forgive and to receive forgiveness and reconciliation to God and to one another.

Spiritual Growth

Adult Christians always continue learning and growing and deepening their relationships with God and one another.

Service

We serve Christ by serving our neighbors.
